Building Binational Bridges: A Cross-Border Convening & The Undocumented Immigrant Experience
Laura Enriquez, Angela Chuan-Ru, Mark Beirn, University of California, Irvine Building Binational Bridges is a cross-border convening organized by the UCI DREAM Center, the UC Collaborative to Promote Immigrant and Student Equity (UC PromISE), and the UCI Center for Liberation Anti-Racism, and Belonging (C-LAB). This initiative aims to bring together U.S. and Mexican participants to discuss immigration, one of the most critical binational issues affecting the U.S. and Mexico, in a forum that centers the DACA student experience. Nature, Creativity, & Well-Being Across the LifeSpan: Scotland Study Abroad

Sturm & Renee Staton, James Madison University This course involves an exploration of the relationship between the natural world and our mental health, psychological development, creativity, resilience, and overall well-being. Students will become academically and experientially familiar with the mental health/psychological benefits of connecting to the natural world through an examination of the research, reflective discussion and exercise, and experiential activities. Students will quickly discover that nature is more than just beautiful...it's necessary for healthy development, mental health and well-being. A primary focus of this course will be nature connection across the lifespan with particular emphasis and experiences in nature-based pedagogy and child-directed learning in nature schools as well as social connection programs for youth and adults. Nature will also be explored as an important part of cultural identity, meaning-making, and sense of place. |
Energy Transitions in Europe
Lynn Badia, Colorado State University In the education abroad program, “Sustainable Energy Futures: Denmark” students experience first-hand how technology and cultural initiatives work symbiotically to make Denmark a model of sustainability practices. Copenhagen is on track to become one of the world’s first carbon neutral capital by 2025. Sustainable energy initiatives have been carefully woven into the city’s infrastructures, education programs, transportation systems, leisure activities, food culture, and daily life. Experiential Learning: Encountering Self-Determination and Generalization across Cultures
Kharon Grimmet, Purdue University This course will investigate self-determination and generalization for individuals with disability as a human right. Students will explore their roles and responsibilities for promoting self-determination and generalization in their chosen career path and reflect upon their individual past and current personal experiences with individuals with disability. While in Greece, learners will engage in new cultural experiences and analyze these experiences from the lens of self-determination and generalization. Learners will apply their new knowledge to devise a plan for future implementation within their program of study/work. |
