The Forum on Education Abroad is pleased to share that we will begin accepting proposals for Annual Conference 2025 on Thursday, June 20.

New this year, the committee welcomes proposals in English, Spanish, and French.

International educators are well positioned to respond to big global challenges. In fact, it is our responsibility to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow and prepare them to tackle the most pressing issues facing our world. The weight of this responsibility can feel overwhelming, especially when we do not have all the answers ourselves.   

The Forum’s 2025 Annual Conference provides a platform for dialogue and deliberation around complex issues. The most critical topics are often the most uncomfortable to discuss. We invite you to lean into discomfort, find support in our growing community, and create solutions together.  
Such conversations are inspiring, energizing, and uplifting. But then how do we move from dialogue to action? How do we effect change?

The Conference Committee invites you to submit session proposals that empower participants to move from conversation to implementation. We are particularly interested in proposals that address:  
​

• Leaning into generative conflict  
• Ethical imperatives of education abroad  
  • Responsibility to learners, host communities, and academic communities  
• Intersections of intercultural learning, decolonization, and indigenization efforts  
• Climate Justice and education abroad  
• Intergenerational learning and collaboration  
• Mental health, accessibility, and wellness and intersections with equity, diversity, and inclusion   
• Leveraging technology for accessibility, efficiency, and effectiveness  
  • Online and hybrid/blended global learning in the post-COVID era  
  • Ed-tech tools to increase efficiency and access  
  • The challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence  
• Foundations of education abroad for an evolving field  
  • Capacity-building for underrepresented institution types, including host institutions  
  • Creative funding models  
  • Internationalizing the curriculum  
  • Short-Term Faculty-Led program design and development  
  • Innovative teaching and learning approaches  
  • Evaluation and assessment  
  • Advancing the practice and scholarship on education abroad as a high impact practice  
  • The Standards of Good Practice in Action

Los profesionales en educación internacional están bien posicionados para contribuir a la resolución de los grandes desafíos globales. De hecho, es nuestra responsabilidad formar a los líderes del mañana y prepararlos para enfrentar los problemas más urgentes a los que se enfrenta nuestro mundo. Este sentido de responsabilidad podría parecer abrumador, sobre todo cuando nosotros mismos no tenemos las respuestas. 
 
La Conferencia Anual 2025 del Forum on Education Abroad ofrece una plataforma de diálogo y deliberación en torno a retos importantes. Los temas más apremiantes suelen ser aquellos que son más incómodos de discutir. Le invitamos a participar en estas discusiones, a encontrar apoyo en nuestra comunidad creciente y a proponer soluciones conjuntas. Estas conversaciones pueden ser inspiradoras, motivantes y provechosas.  
 
Y entonces, ¿cómo pasar del diálogo a la acción? ¿Cómo efectuar el cambio? 
 
La Conferencia Anual 2025 del Forum on Education Abroad le invita a enviar propuestas para sesiones que presenten alternativas para pasar del diálogo a la acción. Resultan particularmente interesantes aquellas propuestas que aborden: 

• Gestión de conflicto con enfoque generativo 

• Cuestiones éticas de la educación en el extranjero 

• Responsabilidad hacia estudiantes, comunidades anfitrionas y comunidades académicas. 

• Intersecciones entre aprendizaje intercultural, descolonización e indigenización

• Salud mental, accesibilidad y bienestar e intersecciones con equidad, diversidad e inclusión 

• La tecnología para la accesibilidad, la eficiencia y la eficacia 

• Aprendizaje global en línea e híbrido/mixto en la era post-COVID 

• Herramientas de tecnología educativa para aumentar la eficiencia y el acceso

Les éducateurs internationaux sont bien placés pour répondre aux grands défis mondiaux. Il est effectivement de notre responsabilité de former les dirigeants de demain et de les préparer à affronter les problèmes les plus pressants auxquels notre monde est confronté. Le poids de cette responsabilité peut sembler accablant, surtout lorsque nous n’avons pas nous-mêmes les réponses. 

La conférence annuelle 2025 du Forum on Education Abroad offre une plateforme de dialogue et conseil autour de ces questions complexes. Les sujets les plus critiques sont souvent les plus difficiles à aborder. Nous vous invitons à faire face aux difficultés, à trouver du soutien dans notre communauté grandissante et à créer des solutions ensemble.

Statement of Conference Goals and Objectives

The Forum on Education Abroad seeks to offer an Annual Conference that supports its mission to “cultivate educators* who champion high-quality education abroad experiences that ignite curiosity, impact lives, and contribute to a better world.”  
 
*By educators, we mean people that facilitate, sponsor, and/or research global learning experiences and education abroad. We understand the term educator to include members of educational institutions, organizations, and those such as host families and community members.   
Through the Annual Conference, we hope to:   

1. engage globally minded educators as lifelong learners and thoughtful practitioners,    
2. facilitate integrative learning that improves practice and contributes to capacity building,    
3. convene institutions, organizations, educators, and thought leaders to identify and address critical issues impacting the field,   
4. advocate for continued investment in education abroad,   
5. leverage our collective expertise to advance full participation in educationally meaningful education abroad.   
   ​

Objectives for the 2025 Annual Conference:   

1. Expand participation, engagement, and dialogue among the full range of stakeholders in EA. This includes:   
   1. ​Soliciting proposals relevant to a range of institution and organization types, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented at the conference and in the field, including:   
      1. International host institutions  
      2. Canadian institutions  
      3. Community Colleges, technical and vocational education and training (TVET)   
      4. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)   
      5. Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs)   
      6. Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs)   
         
      7. Graduate and professional schools   
         
   2. ​​​Soliciting proposals relevant to colleagues whose experiences, perspectives, professional goals, interests and assets have been historically underrepresented at the conference, including:   
      
      1. Perspectives from the Global South  
         
      2. On-site staff  
         
      3. Faculty [U.S. and Internationally Based]   
         
      4. Researchers/scholars both inside the field of EA and beyond   
         
      5. Graduate students   

• Supporting and encouraging individuals regardless of role/position/title to develop support networks and skills that enable them to move from practice to scholarship and vice/versa.   
• Ensuring that the balance of conference sessions builds on The Forum’s interest to create a welcoming and responsive climate for all.   

 
2. Provide learning and development opportunities that contribute to career and leadership development for international educators at all career stages.   

3. Showcase and catalyze opportunities that advance integration of EA across curricular, career, and lifelong learning pathways.
   
4. Demonstrate Examples of Aligned Curriculum & Systems of Support-- encourage proposals that illustrate efforts at the course, program, office, organizational, and national levels to 1) expand equitable access to academically-sound and culturally-relevant EA experiences that advance global learning outcomes at the course, departmental or institutional level, and 2) address student well-being and success and/or are otherwise effective in advocating for sustained/increased investment in EA.   ​

The Graduate Student fee has been established as a means to provide full-time graduate students, who are not gainfully employed full-time, access to The Forum’s Annual Conference.
