A study published today by The Forum on Education Abroad maps the developmental pattern that students follow during their study abroad experiences as they develop the core competencies that are critical in today’s job market.

​Using real-time blog posts written by students while they studied abroad, The Talent Advantage: What Study Abroad Alumni Can Do Differently in the Workplace examined students’ narratives to identify micro-moments where students stretched themselves, connected with others, or persisted through challenges.

On Friday, September 12, education abroad professionals gathered in Muncie, Indiana, for a day-long Regional Seminar designed to equip early and mid-career practitioners with the tools and strategies needed to navigate disruption and foster student success abroad. 

The Forum on Education Abroad published new research today finding that students who studied abroad earn on average $4,159 more in their first job after graduation than those who did not. 

The report, “International Experience as A Career Asset: Exploring the Earnings Impact of Education Abroad Participation,” compiles data from business schools across the United States to compare starting salaries for undergraduate business majors. The salary increase represents a 6.3% earnings differential for education abroad participants. Notably, a starting salary differential was observed not just among A students, but among those who earned B and C averages as well.
