Maintaining a skilled and prepared workforce to respond to the changing health, safety, and security landscape is an essential competency of leaders in education abroad and a persistent challenge in a highly fluid global environment. Facilitated by Hannah Sutton, Manager of Health and Safety at CEA CAPA Education Abroad, and Seth Tucker, Director of Global Safety and Support at Syracuse University, this workshop will provide a framework for designing your own program in alignment with the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. Using examples from actual training sessions, participants will emerge with an understanding of their team’s training needs, the tools to create high-quality staff training modules, and examples of specific sessions related to health, safety, and well-being.

​Hannah Sutton
Manager of Health and Safety, CEA CAPA

Hannah's Bio

As Manager of Health & Safety at CEA CAPA, Hannah Sutton (she/her) works across the organization to coordinate global health and safety practices, assist in emergency management, and equip onsite teams with the tools, resources, and support they need to prioritize student safety and wellbeing. Hannah joined CEA CAPA in September 2021 and maintains membership in OSAC and PULSE. Prior to joining CEA CAPA, she spent seven years at the Institute for Study Abroad in roles focused on pre-departure support and advising. During her undergraduate years, Hannah spent a semester at University College Dublin in Ireland she is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Butler University. 

Seth Tucker
Director of Global Safety and Support, Syracuse University

Seth's Bio

Seth A. Tucker serves as the Director of Global Safety and Support at Syracuse University where he is responsible for developing policy and institutional practice in the areas of global safety, risk mitigation, and crisis management.  With over 25 years’ experience in both academic and student affairs administration, he has previously served as the Vice President for Campus Life and Safety at Onondaga Community College and as the Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Crisis Management at Syracuse University.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and French from Presbyterian College and master’s degrees in international relations and public administration from Syracuse University.  He is a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR). ​
