Visa Information

All visitors are responsible for and must have valid travel documents and identification to enter Portugal, such as a passport or visa. These items are your responsibility, but to help ensure your travel to Lisbon is as smooth as possible, we’ve compiled some important information about obtaining a visa for your stay. Please read the details below and start your visa application process well in advance.

Before applying, verify if you need a visa to enter Portugal based on your nationality. Visit the Government of Portugal’s official visa website to find out if you require a visa.

Key Requirements for Visa-Exempt Travelers (e.g., U.S., Canada, Australia)

• Passport: Valid for at least three months beyond your departure date from the Schengen Area and issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages.
• Schengen Area Stay: You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period (this includes other Schengen countries).
• EES Enrollment: Be prepared for fingerprint and photo collection at the border upon entry and exit as part of the new European Entry/Exit System (EES).
• Proof of Funds & Travel: Border police may ask for proof of accommodation (hotel booking, invitation letter), sufficient funds for your stay, and a return/onward ticket. 

Key Requirements for Travelers Needing a Visa

• Schengen Visa: If your nationality requires a Schengen visa for short stays, apply through the Portuguese Embassy or Consulate well in advance (at least two months). 

Visa Invitation letter

An invitation letter may be required for your visa application. Attendees who have registered and paid in full can request a letter of invitation for visa applications.

Guidelines:  

• Invitation letters will be issued to attendees who have registered for the conference.   
• Invitation letters will be emailed as PDFs to attendees. Hard copies cannot be mailed.  
• The Forum is unable to assist with the visa process beyond providing the invitation letter.

Please request your letter of invitation as soon as possible. Your request will be reviewed by Forum staff. Please allow 2 weeks to receive a response. The Forum reserves the right to decline the request for a letter of invitation. Your request for a letter of invitation does not guarantee that you will receive a visa. The visa application process can take several months, so please apply for a visa as early as possible.
