Call for Proposals

The goal of The Forum’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa Conference is to create a space for shared dialogue to explore the pressing issues shaping the future of international education in this region. Join us in Athens for an event that unites three continents that meet around the Mediterranean Sea, in a geographic region with a long and complex history of mobility and migration.  

The EMEA region faces growing political, economic, and cultural divides. At the same time, the global climate, health, and economic crises underscore our shared challenges and interdependence. How can international education bring people together across contemporary borders and belief systems to create a global community prepared to collaboratively solve these complex challenges? How might our learners be the catalyst for dynamic change in the years to come? What evidence and expertise do we have to support the belief that education abroad can build skills to help young people change the world for better? 

Let’s leverage our past and analyze our present to build a better future—a future where all belong. 

While we welcome proposals addressing all aspects of education abroad in the EMEA region, the conference committee is particularly interested in proposals that address the following topics: 

• Comparative perspectives on the dynamics of power and privilege inherent in education abroad
• Social, economic, environmental, and historical impacts of education abroad
• Cultivating responsible, sustainable, and reciprocal partnerships between stakeholders 
• Today’s learners: how to inspire engagement, exploration, adventure, and discovery
• Universal Design: making learning transformative for all
• The role of technology and Artificial Intelligence in enhancing education abroad
• Health, safety, and wellbeing: emerging concerns
• Elevating the dialogue around “quality”: Applying Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad across contexts  ​

​Panels with representation crossing multiple countries, institutions, organizations, experience levels, and identities are encouraged, as well as proposals that are applicable at a range of institutions and organization types and program models. Colleagues from all forms of Higher Education Institutions and organizations involved in international education in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (universities, host institutions, graduate and professional schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), international education organizations, NGOs and relevant government agencies) are strongly encouraged to participate. Additionally, the committee seeks proposals that balance theory/research and practice, stimulate discussion and provide tangible takeaways.   ​
