FAQs:  Peer Reviewer Workshop

Why does the Forum require the Peer Review Training Workshop?

Many education abroad colleagues have past experience in program reviews. However, the Forum’s Quality Improvement Program for Education Abroad (QUIP) is a unique review model: it is based on the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice; it emphasizes quality improvement  rather than compliance; and it is customized to fit the education abroad mission of each institution. Based on this, it is critical that the Peer Reviewers are trained to the specific processes and expectations of the QUIP review.

One of the consistent outcomes of the Pilot Project was a recognition of the necessity for organized, uniform training for all Peer Reviewers to the QUIP review process. The Forum plans to provide access to Peer Review Training by offering training workshops coinciding with events where education abroad professionals gather.

If I participate in thePeer Review Training Workshop does that mean I am considered a Peer Reviewer?

Peer Reviewer Training is required for QUIP Peer Reviewers; however, potential Peer Reviewers must submit an application to become a Peer Reviewer. The Forum Review Panel (FRP), a committee of education abroad professionals nominated by a joint committee of the Forum Council and the Forum Board of Directors, will review all Peer Reviewer applications.   The FRP will insure that applicants meet the criteria for Peer Reviewers and will appoint the Peer Reviewers.

If I participate in the Peer Review Training Workshop, must I apply to become a Peer Reviewer?

No, applying to become a Peer Reviewer is voluntary.  The training workshop by itself is an excellent professional development experience and should benefit the participant, as well as his/her institution/organization.

Why is there a registration fee?

The workshop’s registration fee covers the costs associated with offering the workshop.
