The Forum on Education Abroad announces a call for session proposals for the 4th Forum Conference. The theme, “Mapping the Field,” focuses on the evolution of education abroad, tracing the routes traveled to become what is now a distinct global academic and professional endeavor. Session proposals should draw on the myriad ways in which education abroad has developed as a field, offer insight into its continued growth and explore its increasingly critical importance to higher education and society as a whole.
Some questions and areas of interest include:
- Along what paths is the profession of education abroad developing?
- What are the boundaries, if any, of the field and the profession?
- What areas of education abroad are in need of further development?
- What are best practices of standards of good practice for both education abroad programs and professionals?
- Where are education abroad’s key points of intersection with other fields, such as languages, student life, technology, and career services and how should they be explored?
- What strategic approaches are best for advancing effective education abroad programs, internally and on the national and global stages?
- How do we include education abroad as a part of the academic path for the underserved disciplines?
Forum conference sessions are distinctive: they engage participants in a thought-provoking dialogue during the session, promoting collegiality and a vibrant exchange of ideas. At past conferences, for example, breakout discussions during sessions have given participants the opportunity to evaluate and present case studies, discuss topics, and brainstorm solutions. Forum conference sessions presuppose that attendees have fundamental knowledge about and are experienced practitioners in the field.
Successful proposals will describe in detail specifically how the proposed session will foster dialogue, interaction and discussion.
Session proposals should be submitted electronically to info@forumea.org by 5pm EST on July 1, 2007, using the Session Proposal Form.
