QUIP Fee Structure and Policies

Forum Membership and QUIP Review Recognition

Participation in QUIP and ongoing recognition of meeting the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice is contingent on maintaining Forum institutional membership.  Institutions recognized through the QUIP process to be in conformity with the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad must maintain their institutional membership in the Forum in order to maintain this formal recognition.  The Standards and the QUIP process are evaluated and updated on an ongoing basis, and recognition in meeting the Forum’s Standards assumes an ongoing commitment to being part of the Forum’s a continuous quality improvement process.  If for some reason an organization’s membership in the Forum lapses after it has received formal recognition through QUIP, the organization will not be recognized as being in conformity with the Forum’s Standards.  It is recommended that a QUIP review be conducted every 8 years; requests to conduct reviews more often than this will be considered on a space-available basis.  Scheduling of QUIP reviews will depend on the length of time that an organization has been a Forum member.  Applications by organizations that have been Forum members the longest will be given priority.

To assess the value of QUIP, it is helpful to consider the per student cost for a review amortized over the 8 years for which a review is valid.  For example, imagine that your organization’s total price for QUIP is $5,000, including the costs associated with hosting peer reviewers.  If your organization has 500 students a year participating in study abroad, the total number of students over 8 years, assuming steady enrollments, would be 4,000 students.  This would make the per student cost of QUIP $1.25.

QUIP Fee Structure

Type 1, Comprehensive Review

To determine fee for your organization: Base Fee ($2,000) + A + B = Total Fee

A

Number of Students Abroad

B

Number of Programs Operated by Organization

<500 =+ $0

     1-5   = + 0

500-750=+$250

5-10 = + $250

 750-1000= + $500

10-20 = + $500

 1000-1500= +$750

20-30 = +$750

1500-2000 = + $1,000

30-40 = +$1,000

  2000-3000 =+$1,250

40-50 = +$1,250

 >3000 = +$1,500

50+ =+$1,500

Example: An organization with 625 students abroad and that operates 12 programs, would pay Base Fee ($2000) + $250 + $500 for a total of  $2,750.

Notes:

  • The organization under review pays peer reviewers’ travel, accommodation and meal expenses.
  • A fee of 25%of the total fee will be assessed for withdrawing from the review.
  • One or two site visits will be required, depending on the structure of the organization.  A visit to a representative study abroad program site is normally required as part of every review, as is a visit to the organization’s headquarters.
  • 'Number of programs' refers to programs that the organization manages or operates, as publically described in its materials and on its website, plus the number that it routinely uses as “approved” programs..  Multiple programs in a given location each count as an individual program (ie.: three distinct programs in London, marketed as such, count as three separate programs).
