Strategic Plan

The Forum aspires to be the leading organization for the advancement of excellence in education abroad by providing outstanding services and products to its members and by promoting excellence in the field of education abroad as a whole. 

Defining Characteristics
In order to advance its goal to be the premier education abroad association of international prominence, The Forum advances five distinctive Defining Characteristics, each with its own Strategic Objective:

I. Standards of Good Practice
Strategic Objective:  Lead the field of education abroad through the development of standards of good practice, and a quality improvement program that assists institutions and organizations in meeting these standards.

II. Curricular Development and Academic Design
Strategic Objective:  Promote excellence in curricular development and academic design to assist members to meet the standards of good practice for education abroad.

III. Outcomes Assessment and Research
Strategic Objective:  Facilitate and promote outcomes assessment and other types of research, and disseminate the results of this research to assist members to meet the standards of good practice for education abroad.

IV. Data Collection
Strategic Objective:  Collect quantitative and qualitative data that will deepen our knowledge and understanding of the field and assist members to meet the standards of good practice for education abroad.

V.  Advocacy
Strategic Objective:  Disseminate information about education abroad to educate others about its purposes, its standards and practices, and its relevance to higher education.
Translate the results of the Forum’s activities to its various constituents in effective and mutually beneficial ways.

 

Enabling Conditions
The following enabling conditions help to mark the Forum’s distinctiveness and they advance the Forum’s mission and activities.

I.  Focused Mission
Strategic Objective:  No other association or organization has the specific mission that the Forum has.  The Forum will stay focused on its core mission and purpose and make certain that all activities, initiatives and projects are consistent with its specific objectives and goals.

II. Membership
Strategic Objective:  The Forum will recruit and retain members by providing useful, high quality member services and products that are successfully managed and marketed.

III. Financial Stability
Strategic Objective: The Forum’s financial health relies on several factors: membership dues, conference income, grants income, fees for membership services, collaborations with other associations and institutions, the contract with and support from Dickinson College, and getting the most out of those working people for and on behalf of the Forum.

IV. Visibility
Strategic Objective:  The Forum will create a broad recognition for the organization that raises its national and international profile with all constituencies as a prestigious association of quality and excellence.

V.  Collaborations and Partnerships
Strategic Objective:  The Forum will advance its mission by collaborating and partnering with other organizations and constituents, as well as member organizations and institutions, in ways that are mutually beneficial.
