The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. It is ideally suited both for those unfamiliar with the Standards, as well as for colleagues who want to delve more deeply into how to utilize them for program development, assessment and improvement. The workshop will examine the philosophy and purpose of the Standards and their use as a tool for program assessment and improvement. Workshop activities will include an analysis of case studies that illustrate how the Standards are a useful tool for assessment and improvement of education abroad programs.
The Standards are recognized as the definitive means for guiding education abroad programs. Developed by hundreds of education abroad colleagues and experts, and now in their third edition, they have been tested at well over 100 colleges and universities and provider programs around the world.
The Forum on Education Abroad is a non-profit global membership organization and the only organization whose exclusive purpose is to serve the education abroad field. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization (SDO) for education abroad, the Forum has over 400 members that collectively represent over 90% of the U.S. students that study abroad.
The Forum on Education Abroad has conducted this workshop at its Annual Conference and other venues. Participants will receive copies of the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad, Code of Ethics for Education Abroad, and the Standards of Good Practice for Short-Term Education Abroad Programs. The workshop will be led by Dr. Brian Whalen, President and CEO of the Forum.
